GamePro.com: "Despite its lack of modern convention, Dune 2000 does have a number of things going for it. Its well-balanced selection of units includes the usual tanks, mobile artillery, and fast-moving machine-gun vehicles, as well as infantry-an oft-forgotten and inexpensive unit that packs quite a punch in large numbers. Computer controlled neutrals either help or hinder your progress during certain missions. The cut-scenes are numerous-one before each and every mission-and well done. Due to its seemingly old engine, Dune 2000 should have no difficulty running on older Pentium machines. Most importantly, the original feel of Dune 2 is there-the spice mining, the special units of each house, and the unit-eating sand worms bring you right back to the glory days. The updated graphics do a marvelous job of wrapping the old style in a beautifully designed body."
The paradox is that from a developer of Westwood's standing, Dune 2000 is substandard. As an updated version of Dune 2 it's fine. If that was Westwood's aim in developing the game, then they have succeeded. But maybe they should have aimed their sights a little bit higher and created a sequel. They've had long enough to do that, after all.
"Dune 2000 is an RTS, much like the RTSs you know and love, like CftC. However, it's set in the Dune universe, an exotic setting full of political intrigue and danger. It was a classic game that we wanted to give devoted fans a chance to revisit, and give a new generation of gamers the opportunity to experience for the first time. The engine in Dune 2000 is new. It has been developed to support various new features that were not found in the original. It will contain all of the simplicity and excitement that made the original, CftCand Red Alert fun to play."
Dune 2000 is a real-time strategy game that dwells an the universe of Frank Herbert's Dune series. Often considered the grand-daddy of all RTS games, Dune 2000 is an updated version of the 1992 classic Dune 2, Some would argue that Dune 2 is one of the most influential strategy games ever made. The structure of managing resources, building a base and controlling troops, all in real time, has spawned a market in size that's comparable to the likes of first-person shooters. However, Dune 2000 on the PlayStation will be more than just a straight port of the PC title.

Dune 2000 is a Windows 95/98 game from 1998. It is a partial remake of Dune II, but it has a very much improved control set and of course improved graphics. If you own the original CD of the game, it should install and run fine on a 32 bit version of Windows. If you have a 64 bit operating system, you will have a hard time installing the game, as the installer is a 16 bit program. However, there's a way to install and play the game from CD, you can find instructions here.
To play Dune 2000 on 64 bit operating systems, it is also possible to use VirtualBox with a 32 bit version of Windows XP. Please make sure that you also install the VirtualBox Guest Additions, otherwise Dune 2000 won't work properly. However, when you do have Dune 2000 running in Virtual Box, sound is not optimal, and the window resolution is low.
Dune 2000 is a real-time strategy video game, developed by Intelligent Games and released by Westwood Studios in 1998 for Microsoft Windows. It was later ported to the PlayStation in 1999.[2] It is a partial remake of Dune II, which is loosely based on Frank Herbert's Dune universe.[3] The story of the game is similar to Dune II, and is continued in Emperor: Battle for Dune. Although Dune 2000 was originally intended to be a remake of Dune II, the plotline differs completely and makes a reference to the execution of Mentat Amon of House Ordos and the replacement of the Harkonnen Mentat from Dune II, Radnor, by Hayt De Vries. The story is told with full motion video.
Peter Suciu of AllGame gave the PC version four-and-a-half stars out of five, saying that "for fans of the original game, or those who like a real-time challenge, Dune 2000 is an instant classic".[27] However, Glenn Wigmore of the same website gave the PlayStation version three-and-a-half stars out of five: "With smooth visuals, superb sound, a plethora of gameplay modes, strategy and replay value, Dune 2000 is a real winner. It also makes great use of the various PlayStation peripherals, making for a well rounded experience".[28]

Recently we completed a move to a dedicated server. Rather than sharing a virtual server (VPS) with other users, this allows us to have consistently fast connections and full access to the CPU and RAM (with copious amounts to spare). gruntmods.com has also been moved to the dedicated server, however, the downloads are still served from a separate VPS to ensure optimal download performance. If you experience any issues with the site, please let us know.
To be clear on something, the OpenRA game engine is open source under the GPL, however, the actual games of course aren't. Thankfully, they were released for free by EA a few years ago so OpenRA simply downloads the free releases.
Hi! We are using DxWnd for dune 2000 and it works great! Today a noticed a weird bug, for any reason the videos are getting stretched in width when DxWnd is enabled, but the height stays normal. Any idea why this could happen?
Latest dune2000.exe/dune2000config.exe are not included in the gruntmods download yet, but you can the files here if you like to take a look at my "hack": -dune-2000-106p-game-patching-bug-fixes-new-features/
Yes, I just quickly renamed dune2000.ini to dxwnd-proxy.ini since it was just a copy/paste of my dune2000 patch where I tried to filter out everything that wasn't needed for dune 2000 to keep it simple for the end users. It should be changed to read the bitfields from the .ini files to keep the full functionality!
We may have multiple downloads for few games when different versions are available. Also, we try to upload manuals and extra documentation when possible. If you have additional files to contribute or have the game in another language, please contact us!
